THE 78 CARDS · RESEARCH NOTES

Meaning & symbolism

Traditional Rider–Waite–Smith symbolism and an editorial Royal / Dragon adaptation for this card.

Upright keywords

Many possibilities · fantasy · discernment

Upright meaning

Seven cups float in clouds, filled with images that are both alluring and unsettling. The card deals with imagination, numerous options, incomplete evidence, desires, and their hidden costs. Discernment means looking past the fantasy to what each choice would actually require.

Reversed keywords

Growing clarity · narrowing options · or deeper escapism

Reversed meaning

Someone may begin choosing a realistic path, or feel too overwhelmed to commit. Reversal does not automatically mean that an illusion has vanished; look at how decisions are being made.

RWS image & symbols

Seven cloud-borne cups hold a veiled figure, a head, a snake, a tower, treasure, a laurel wreath, and a dragon. These can suggest mystery, self-image, desire or knowledge, status, wealth, victory, and fear or unfamiliar strength; interpretations of individual objects vary.

Reader's lens

Move from 'Which option appeals to me?' to 'What evidence, time, and responsibility does each option involve?'

Royal / Dragon adaptation

Retain all seven distinct cups and their contents. Turn the snake into a serpentine dragon; keep the original dragon. Add no other animals.

Research edition based on the supplied 78-card manuscript. Symbolic interpretations are contextual, not guaranteed predictions or professional advice. Sonam Zangmo’s individual card interpretations will be added following editorial review.
