THE 78 CARDS · RESEARCH NOTES

Meaning & symbolism

Traditional Rider–Waite–Smith symbolism and an editorial Royal / Dragon adaptation for this card.

Upright keywords

Structural collapse · revelation · sudden change

Upright meaning

What was built on an unstable foundation can break apart. An exposed truth, failed system, or disruptive event can make reconstruction unavoidable. The Tower is the intensity of that realization, not a guarantee that life will remain ruined. Rebuilding begins after the structure gives way.

Reversed keywords

Delayed upheaval · internal crisis · reduced damage

Reversed meaning

The person may see a problem yet work to preserve appearances, or a change may already be managed well enough to limit harm. Ask whether a risk was genuinely avoided or merely deferred.

RWS image & symbols

Lightning strikes the crown of the tower and exposes a weakness; the falling crown challenges power or illusion; two falling figures show the human stakes; flames and droplets mark destruction; rugged mountains and dark sky suggest isolation.

Reader's lens

Do not predict a certain accident. For work, identify any fragile system and a practical step that could reduce risk now.

Royal / Dragon adaptation

Use a simplified royal tower with two falling royal figures, credible anatomy, and no decorative dragons that distract from the collapse.

Research edition based on the supplied 78-card manuscript. Symbolic interpretations are contextual, not guaranteed predictions or professional advice. Sonam Zangmo’s individual card interpretations will be added following editorial review.
