Meaning & symbolism
Traditional Rider–Waite–Smith symbolism and an editorial Royal / Dragon adaptation for this card.
Upright keywords
Indecision · a truce · needing more information
Upright meaning
Blindfolded, a figure crosses two swords before their chest with water behind them. Reason becomes a defense against a difficult choice: a feeling is shut out, or a temporary balance is maintained to prevent a rash decision. The pause can be useful when it is spent gathering evidence.
Reversed keywords
A stalemate breaking · information overload · an unavoidable choice
Reversed meaning
Indecision cannot be sustained forever. Feelings that were excluded may return with greater force. Reversal can mark the moment to remove the blindfold and face what is true.
RWS image & symbols
The blindfold signals missing or avoided information; crossed swords form a provisional balance; sea and rocky islands suggest emotion behind the figure; a crescent moon marks uncertainty; the seated pose suspends action.
Reader's lens
What further evidence is needed, and when must the decision be made? Waiting is not a permanent strategy.
Royal / Dragon adaptation
Seat a prince or princess before the water and moon. Keep exactly two swords and make both gripping hands clear.
